A video showing a dog’s reaction to eating a piece of turnip has left the internet in stitches.
Like most pets, dogs enjoy a small treat but in this particular case, a turnip provided little satisfaction for one black Labrador.
In the hilarious video, uploaded to TikTok, user @thatrezteacher described how her dog, Muk’s, “pure disappointment” was plain for all to see.
The 15-second clip shows Muk’s owner holding a piece of turnip in front of him as he sits patiently in the kitchen.
When the owner gives Muks the piece of turnip, it initially appears as though he is delighted with the treat.
But it soon dawns on the pooch that he is chomping on something not to his liking and he stops chewing soon after.
The clip then ends with Muks looking into the camera with a sense of disappointment etched on his face.
Thankfully, another video shared by Muks’ Canadian owner shows him getting a tasty cheese treat.
According to the American Kennel Club, dogs have no real need for fruits or vegetables as part of their diet.
The AKC says: “Giving dog-safe fruit or vegetables to dogs as a treat or snack is OK. Fresh dog foods often include vegetables and fruits in diets formulated for dogs because they offer a source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.”
Of course, there are exceptions and the AKC lists some fruits and vegetables that dogs should avoid, namely:
- Avocados
- Cherries
- Grapes
- Tomatoes
- Asparagus
- Mushrooms
- Onions
Since being shared on Sunday, October 8, the clip of Muks has been seen 3.6 million times and has attracted more than 806,500 comments.
The overwhelming majority of people who commented on the post felt sympathy for Muks with many demanding he be given a better treat.
TikTok user Mandilyn said: “I heard you say turnip and still thought it was cheese.”
Shadowfax1451 added: “You better give that precious one some cheese right now.”
Maji commented: “My brain thought you said turnip and gave him cheese so he was expecting turnip but was disappointed.”
Thebigbigbangg commented: “That’s how I feel when I eat turnip too.”
